How we evaluate the health benefits of the foods we consume is undergoing a significant paradigm shift. Previously, the quality of foods was based mainly on protein, fats, and carbohydrate levels and whether the foods provide adequate amounts of essential nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and essential fats and amino acids. These are the nutrients we need to sustain the biochemical activity in the cells throughout our body.

Essential Microbiome Nutrients: Over the past several decades, scientists have discovered that the gut microbiome plays a critical role in regulating many aspects of health, especially our immune system. An estimated 100 trillion bacteria control the biochemical activity in the gut microbiome. There are two categories of dietary compounds that are essential nutrients that probiotic bacteria require, which are dietary fibers and polyphenols.

Microbiome Nutritional Deficiencies: Numerous studies have reported that from 80-95% of American children and adults DO NOT consume adequate dietary fiber and polyphenols. Consequently, the probiotic bacteria in most people are not receiving enough of the nutrients they require to thrive and survive. These microbiome nutritional deficiencies cause microbial/bacterial imbalance, resulting in dysbiosis and intestinal irritation. These problems result in damage to the lining of the intestinal tract, which is associated with virtually all chronic age-related conditions.

The Microbiome Diet is a diet that contains a wide diversity of plant-based foods. This will provide a variety of dietary fibers and polyphenols, which promotes the growth and proliferation of an assortment of probiotic bacteria, thus enabling the probiotic bacteria to produce a diversity of postbiotic metabolites.

Many people mistakenly believe that taking high-dose probiotics will help solve intestinal problems and promote a healthy gut microbiome. Consuming a plant-based diet that provides a wide variety of fruits and vegetables is the only way to create and maintain a healthy microbiome.

When the intestinal microbiome is out of balance, called dysbiosis, people experience symptoms such as gas, bloating, diarrhea and constipation, pain, and intestinal irritation, which can damage the intestinal barrier. When people consume a diet with a diversity of plant-based foods, their probiotic bacteria produce postbiotic metabolites that have anti-inflammatory activity, suppress or kill harmful bacteria, aid in detoxification, and enhance the immune system.

Microbiome Supplements: Postbiotic metabolites are increasingly recognized as the new frontier in microbiome science and regulate the gastrointestinal/microbiome ecosystem. Some of the best-known postbiotic metabolites are short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), antimicrobial peptides, and hydrogen peroxide, which suppresses the growth of candida and other yeasts.

Ingesting postbiotic metabolites orally can reduce dysbiosis-related intestinal symptoms and help to reestablish a healthy microbiome. Consequently, an increasing number of companies are including one or several postbiotic compounds in their product formulation, which enables them to use the word ‘Postbiotic’ on their label. This approach ignores the importance of the diversity of postbiotic metabolites produced by the probiotic bacteria in a healthy microbiome.

Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics: The BEST Microbiome Supplement: Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics is produced in a multi-year fermentation process that creates over 500 postbiotic metabolites. Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics is the #1 product in the world for the oral delivery of postbiotics. This explains why Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics have developed a worldwide reputation for providing fast relief from intestinal problems.

Your gut microbiome and your immune system are both critical for good health. Taking Dr. Ohhira’s Probiotics regularly and consuming a diverse range of plant-based foods is the best insurance for the creation and/or maintenance of a healthy microbiome. That’s the Dr. Ohhira’s Advantage.
